Dog Scouts

During the winter months Dog Scouts 211 will be hosting training events. Please check in frequently as the training will be based on troop needs.

The first few class dates will be scheduled to work on the DSA badge. These will be formal training for you and your dog to obtain the DSA badge and or the CGC title if you wish.

As these are formal training I need to recover costs and expenses, but I am keeping the cost to the bare minimum.

The region’s largest theme park is holding its annual Job Fair on Friday, February 17 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, February 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for all positions including Admissions, Foods, Games, Lifeguards, Loss Prevention, Park Services, Promotions, Retail and Rides.

Six Flags New England offers paid trainings, benefits, flexible schedules, a fun atmosphere, free park admission, and the opportunity to work at the Thrill Capital of New England. Interested applicants must be at least 16 years old and should be prepared for on-the-spot interviews, so dress to impress! It is recommended that all interested candidates apply online at sixflagsjobs.com prior to arrival. Please note that the annual Job Fair will take place at the Six Flags New England Human Resources building located at 1756 Main Street (across the street from the theme park).

Dog Wash, Bake Sale, Raffle and Pet Food Drive

Dog Wash at Dave's to raise money for Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society and the American Cancer Society.

Several great orginizations are gearing up to work together, "Bark For Life" Dave's Soda and Pet City, Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, Dog Scouts Troop 211, Dog Pals and many great volunteers.

Bring your dog down for a great bath and blow dry and maybe some brushing. Athough shampoo and condintioner will be provided if you have a speacial shampoo or conditioner bring that with you and we can use it.

I believe the cost will be $15.00 per dog but this has not been confimend.

We will also be selling baked goods for both humans and pets and a raflle.

This class is being run as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's Bark For Life campaign. Our goal is to be able to donate up to $600.00 for this great event.

Jim Helems currently owns Jim Helems' Dog Pals. As a dog behavior consultant and dog trainer Jim deals with dogs and other pets on a daily basis. Along with his 22 years as a military medic, Jim is uniquely qualified to teach this class.

Certified by both the American Red Cross and Pet Tech, (the leader in pet first aid training) as an instructor in many pet health fields.

Currently Jim is involved with several Disaster Animal Response Teams at the local, state and national levels assisting in local disasters and also assists the ASPCA and the International Fund for Animal Welfare in rescuing dogs from illegal puppy mills.

Most importantly Jim has used these skills to help save the lives of several dogs from car accidents, illness and more.
